The Texarkana Volunteer Center was established in May 1969. We are 40 years old May, 2009. The Texarkana Volunteer Center exists to mobilize people and resources - to deliver solutions to community problems.

The purpose of the Texarkana Volunteer Center is community betterment through citizen participation. The Center connects people wishing to share their time with others. The Volunteer Center is governed by a 21 member board of directors, affiliated with the Points of Light Foundation and Hands On Network and is active in both Arkansas and Texas.

Texarkana Community Resource Directory produced by the Volunteer Center, gives information to over 600 community services and groups and is available from the Volunteer Center office and the Texarkana Chamber of Commerce.

The Escort Program transports senior citizens over the age of 60 to the doctor, grocery store and places of business through volunteers. To qualify a person must have no other means of transportation.

Skilled Parenting is a parenting program providing psychological and sociological support to disadvantaged parents. During the weekly classes, clients learn skills in caring for their children; they learn better ways to manage homes, and are educated in better parenting skills.

Jump Start is service learning for youth designed to educate kids and help them complete community service.

Youth Volunteer Program helps teenagers become volunteers while getting involved in the community and making a difference. The Youth Volunteer Program provides agencies with much needed volunteer help. It also gives young people a fun, productive and educational way to spend time.
